Description: 1872 Martini-Henry Sporting Rifle, 577-450, factory engraved, w/documented history & inscribed oval medallion to the Maharaja of Munnipoor from the Viceroy of India in 1872 on the butt stock When I acquired this rifle, I received the document (pictured ) that told of the request to supply 12 Martini Henry Sorting Rifles for the Maharajah of Munipoor in 1872, Months later, I was researching this rifle and found the pictured reference (regarding the Manipur Uprising of 1891) which states that: "Traces were found of the royal fugitives, with some Martini Henry rifles, Sniders, sporting rifles and ammunition scattered in the jungle One rifle was inscribed as having been presented to the Maharaja of Manipur by the Viceroy in 1872..."
