MARLIN Model 97 Lever Action .22 RF “TAKEDOWN” Hunting/Sporting Rifle C&R
Blue with Casehardened Receiver In .22 Caliber
Description: MARLIN Model 97 Lever Action .22 RF “TAKEDOWN” Hunting/Sporting Rifle C&R Blue with Casehardened Receiver In .22 Caliber Here we present a C&R Marlin Model 97 Lever Action .22 Rimfire Rifle, made circa 1905-1917 in New Haven, Connecticut. This rifle had a production run from 1897 to around 1915 (the records are a little sketchy) when the factory retooled for the war effort. After World War I, a few guns were assembled from parts until 1922 when it was re-designated as the Model 39. Sometime during 1905, Marlin changed the model designation on the tang from “Marlin 1897” to “Marlin 97”, making this rifle post-1905. John Mahlon Marlin, founder of the company, served as a machinist with Colt Patent Firearms of Hartford prior to starting his own firearm manufacturing company in New Haven in 1863 during the American Civil War, where he concentrated primarily on production of small, single shot .22 deringers. The Marlin Golden Model 39A started life as the Marlin Model 1891, the first lever-action rifle ever chambered in .22 Long Rifle and the magazine was loaded through a conventional side gate in the receiver. The tubular magazine was changed to front-loading with the Model 1892, due to the difficulties of receiver feeding the small rimfire round. The 1892 gave way to this takedown Model 1897, which became the Model 39 in 1922 and Model 39A in 1939. This is a nice example of the Marlin Model 97 that would be great for hunting squirrels and rabbits, or just taking out to do a little “plinking”. The overall condition is good. Robust, crisp action. This example has a bright bore with nice rifling, having been re-lined. The stock is solid but a bit of wiggle is present where the buttstock meets the frame. Sharp markings. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 24 inches. Caliber: .22 Rimfire (S, L, LR) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2000 #227771 SOLD |
