1973 Marlin Model 39M Mountie Lever Action .22 Carbine w/ Bushnell Scope
** 1st Year of "39M" Designation ** SALE PENDING
Description: The Marlin Golden 39A Mountie was introduced in 1957. The Mountie featured a slim forearm and a straight grip stock with a squared finger lever and a 24" inch barrel. In 1973 Marlin changed the model name to just 39M and the features all remained the same except for the barrel and tube magazine, which was shortened to 20" inches and a 16-shot capacity. Marlin continued to make the Model 39M until 1987 when it was discontinued. The Mountie has always been a popular and collectible model and nice examples bring a premium. This particular example was made in the first year of 39M production, 1973. It is in excellent shape overall and has apparently been used and carried very little since it left the factory. The original factory blue finish rates 97% with only some very small handling marks visible under close inspection. The bore in the 20" inch barrel is bright and clean. The "Micro-Groove" rifling still looks brand new, and there is no pitting or erosion visible whatsoever. The American Walnut stock set is both attractive and in excellent condition. There are no cracks, repairs, or chipping of the wood. The factory varnish is 98% intact and still shows a nice glossy appearance. The only negatives are some small handling marks/dings, and the remnants of the Marlin factory sticker are still on the forearm. Those stickers are notorious for not coming off easily if the first owner did not remove it quickly upon purchasing the rifle. The factory sling swivels are still in place and the original white spacer and black plastic Marlin-branded buttplate are in excellent shape and tight to the stock. Everythin on this 39M works 100% like the day it left the factory in 1973. It should shoot just like new. It comes with a vintage Bushnell Sportview 4-12x40 scope mounted on a Weaver base with 1" inch rings. The Sportview has nice clear optics with no damage or imperfections visible. It features an adjustable objective lens and a duplex style reticle. All of the controls work perfectly including the elevation and windage adjustments. It should hold zero perfectly. If you have been looking for a top quality and collectible lever-action .22 rifle, this Marlin Mountie 39M would be an excellent choice. This model is very accurate, reliable, well-made, and sought-after by collectors.
