1969 Vintage Marlin Golden 39A Model .22 Lever-Action Rifle
** Exceptional All-Original Example **
Description: The Marlin Golden 39A is one of the iconic .22 lever-action rifle designs of all-time. Based off of the original Marlin Model 39 that was first introduced in 1922, the Marlin Golden 39A model variation was introduced in 1959 and remained in production until 1987. It quickly earned a reputation for being very well-made, handsome, extremely reliable, and very accurate, a reputation that has stayed with the rifle to this day. The .22 caliber lever-action Golden 39A features a beautiful factory gloss-blue finish on the metal, a 24" inch round barrel with "Micro-Groove" rifling, a hooded front sight and an elevation-adjustable rear sight, a under-barrel tubular magazine that holds 26 shorts, 21 longs, or 19 long rifle cartidges, a gold-finished trigger, a factory drilled and tapped receiver for optics or a receiver peep sight, and a smooth American Walnut pistol-grip stock set with factory sling swivels, a pistol grip cap, and a Marlin-branded checkered black plastic buttplate. Both the pistol grip cap and buttplate have a factory white spacer, and the keel of the buttstock has the well-known black and white Marlin "bullseye" insert. The Golden 39A is a take-down design that comes apart easily without the need for tools by simply turning the large knurled screw on the right side of the receiver. This 1969-production Marlin Golden 39A .22 caliber lever-action rifle has obviously spent the vast majority of it's life in storage and has been very well-cared for. Judging by it's condition both inside and out, we are confident that it has had less than a box of cartidges fired thru it at the very most since it left the factory 51 years ago. The factory gloss-blue finish is in beautiful shape, rating 98%. The only deductions come from a a few tiny handling/storage marks and a touch of finish wear on the sides of the hammer and lever boss where they make contact with the receiver when worked. As you can see from the pictures, this Marlin is extremely clean and these very small deductions do not detract any appreciable amount from the overall look of the rifle. The original factory gold-finished trigger is in excellent condition as well, rating 98%. All of the factory markings on this Golden 39A are crisp and clear, and all of the screw heads are in excellent shape. The original factory plug screws in the drilled and tapped holes on the side and top of the receiver have never been touched and are in perfect shape. The bore in this Marlin is mirror-bright and pristine. The "Micro-Groove" rifling is sharp and flawless, and there are no visible imperfections whatsoever throughout the bore. The original American Walnut stock set on this rifle is in excellent condition overall and is the sought-after oil-finished model only offered on the pre-1970 guns. The forearm and pistol grip buttstock are a perfect match to each other in every way, and both stock pieces are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage. The wood shows some minor handling marks or safe rash but no actual wear from being used or carried. The pistol grip cap and white spacer are in like-new condition and perfectly fit the stock, and the factory buttplate and white spacer are in excellent condition, perfectly fit and tight to the butt with no wiggle. Both of the factory-installed sling swivels are in perfect shape and the Marlin "bullseye" insert is still intact and clean. The factory hand-fit action on this Marlin still feels like-new, both very smooth and very precise. The action locks up perfectly tight in battery and has a very positive ejection. This is a pre-safety gun but does have a safety position on the hammer by pulling it back one click. The trigger in this Marlin is excellent for a lever-action. It breaks nicely without any slop or excessive travel with a medium pull. This Marlin 39A should function perfectly if the new owner so chooses. If you have been looking for a "collector grade" vintage Marlin 39A here is your chance a beautiful all-original example from one of the best periods of production prior to 1970. In our humble opinion these are the best looking Golden 39A's ever made with the high gloss blue finish, gold trigger, and matte oil-finished stock set. You would be hard-pressed to find a better example than this one!
