MARLIN MODEL 1881 THIN SIDE LIGHTWEIGHT FACTORY ENGRAVED RIFLE IN 38-55
Description: Original 28 octagon barrel chambered in 38-55 caliber with full length magazine tube. Original sights include a Lyman bead front and Marlin sporting rear with a folding tang. Very good bore and a smooth action. Original pistol grip checkered Circassian style walnut is in very good condition with only a few minor handling mars. Crescent rifle style buttplate. Gun is beautifully engraved in a bank note style of more elaborate than standard engraving featuring a grizzly bear on one side and a deer in an oval panel on the other side. Overall gun is in fine condition with 75% toning barrel and mag blue. Receiver is nickel plated and has turned a very attractive dull patina nickel coloration. Gun was formerly in the William Brophy collection. He was a historian for Marlin. This is one of the scarcer of the Marlin's as there were only 3 or 4 of these ever engraved in the thin side lightweight rifle configuration. This is an all original fine little gun that would look good in any Marlin collection. Leroy Merz Antique Firearms specializes in antique and vintage Winchesters and other fine American firearms.
