Marlin Ballard 32-40 Schuetzen Rifle; Half Round-Half Octagon Barrel; Double-Set Triggers

Description:
Another Marlin Ballard Schuetzen from the family collection. This one is in 32-40 Caliber (Winchester and/or Ballard) with a 25-Inch Half Round/Half Octagon Barrel in a Classic American Style Schuetzen Stock with what must be a later Aluminum Two-Prong Buttplate. Serial Number 7,2XX with receiver markings on two lines: “J.M. MARLIN. NEW-HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. / BALLARD’S. PATENT NOV. 5. 1861.” Metal is a mix of mostly smooth patina with rough spots shown in the photos. There are scope blocks and dovetail cuts for sights, and it carries Double-Set Triggers. The lever is a bit droopy as with most of these old Ballards. Wood is quite Dark with Age, but also quite nice looking with Well-Executed Checkering on the Forend and Pistol Grip. The Schnabel Forend Tip is Lighter/Inlaid Wood – that has a chip on the Schnabel Lip. Other more minor dings and blemishes are present. The Bore has well-preserved deep rifling despite the presence of moderate, even pitting throughout. It is eminently shootable, and aside from the customary lever droop, functions and mechanics are tight & intact.
