Marlin’s First Lever Action Rifle! Lightweight
Description: c1888 mfr. Antique MARLIN Model 1881 .38-55 WCF Rifle Octagonal Barrel 1st Marlin’s First Lever Action Rifle! Lightweight Here we present an antique J.M. Marlin Model 1881 Rifle in .38-55 WCF, made circa 1888 in New Haven, Connecticut. Only about 20,000 are estimated to have been made. Only 3,563 of those were chambered for the .38-55, second in scarcity only to the .32. Other chamberings were .32-40, .40-60, and .45-70 Govt. The Model 1881 was Marlin’s first lever action rifle. John Mahlon Marlin (JMM) worked for Samuel Colt in Hartford during the American Civil War but went to work under his own name in 1863. He was best known for his single shot rifles before the debut of the Model 1881 and today the company is known for those lever action repeaters. This is also the light weight model with the barrel measuring less than ¾” across and the lever measuring less than 7/16” in width. The overall condition is very good. Original finish/patina. The stock shows much use and a coat of thick varnish. The action is excellent. The bore is in great shape, clean with good rifling. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 28 inches. Caliber: .38-55 Winchester Center Fire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
