I have been collecting Steyr Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles for over 20 years and this is the only M72 that I've ever seen with this level of engraving and carving. The engraving and carving are clearly 100% factory additions consistent with the many other examples and catelogs I've seen on older MS rifles. The relief is very deep and ornate, clearly done by one of the old-time craftsman of the Steyr factory, not the laymen engravers. This 308 Winchester (.308 Win) is a show stopper and would also be a very practical hunting rifle. The wood is in good shape and has a low-gloss finish which is desirable for hunting. The rifle does show signs of being used in the field but no damage, rust or cracks. The barrel is shiny and crisp so it couldn't have been fired much. The double-set triggers are crisp and also function perfectly but the plating is wearing a bit. Also note the exceptionally low serial number of this rifle, being 408. This beautiful rifle would be a fine choice to take out and hunt in the field or easily cleaned up to exhibition grade if desired. The scope is NOT INCLUDED but the bases and rings are.
