Mannlicher Schoenauer Rifle, Model 52, Made in 1952, 30-06
Description: PRICE REDUCED!!!! Spectacular rifle, that many consider to be the finest production rifle ever made. It was this exceptional manufacturing method that took it into the "rich" shooter's/hunter's realm and made it too costly to produce and sell at a price that rivaled the Winchester Model 70s or Weatherby Mark Vs of that period. IMHO, they were baseball bats aside this rifle... So production ceased in 1968 and Steyr went the cheaper route. I rememember running into the Ayers Kaserne Rod and Gun sales store in 1975 having just arrived for a military tour of Germany, looking for my first purchase of a new Mannlicher Schoenauer. Sorry... zippo...I settled for a Steyr Mannlicher...Good, rifle, but Macrolon (as in "plastic") magazine, etc. It did me well in the Roe and Red Deer departments, but wasn't the Mannlicher Schoenauer of my youth, that dad brought back in 1945. OK, 'nuff of that...This rifle... Fjestad Blue Blue Book of Gun Values (the Bible), 42d edition, lists it at $2000 in 100%. Mine is not quite that...close, but for some old and minor barrel mottling, likely left by slight rust unattended for a while as a safe queen. Hardly perceptable, but I mention it as one who is anal for those who are the same. One last? Sling swivels have been replaced by the ones shown...quick disconnects. But if this rifle has ever been on a hunting trip, I would eat my fedora. I've lowered the price from $1450 to $1300 (!) for it and would suggest that you buy Griffin-Howe side mount and do the scope install as Steyr intended for this rifle. This will give you a long range sheep gun to rival anything out there. Double set trigger is a bonus!!! Is this a great deal? Look about (on this site and others) and see what folks are asking..and what their rifle's condition is. Shipping/insurance will be at actual cost. I just sold its single trigger sister to a gentleman in Alaska so should have a good idea of what shipping cost will be...there or to lower 48. I'll need an FFL or Curio and Relic form... Any questions will be answered promptly... Need more pics? Tell me of where you need them and I'll forward. Three day return policy...not to be shot or nicked, dropped or car door dinged (like who has not?)... Rob Kornacki, US Army (Retired) Added 4 October... A knowledgeable looker suggested that the stock may not be original to the rifle. The butt plate on the stock does have a small "Fajen" on it that I assumed to be an old buttplate add, but never thought the entire stock, as the fit is perfect and was much the same as my other Mannlicher Schoenauers. I just took it apart to see if there were any other Fajen or MS marks/logos on the stock internally but found none. But let us assume then that the stock is a replacement, although Fajen stocks and additional checkering money required are certainly not Walmart specials. But if an original collectible stock you seek, then this one may not answer the mail. But if a shooter/hunting rifle is your choice, this one is in truly great shape and never buggered up with extra holes drilled in the receiver to accomodate cheap scope mounts...as are often encountered.
