Beautiful Johnson Automatics Model Of 1941 Rifle in 30-06 Caliber

Description:
The Johnson rifle was designed shortly before World War 2 as a light military weapon, and was extensively tested by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.  Neither accepted the rifle as the M1 Garand rifle had just been put into mass production before the testing.  However, in 1941 with the U.S. armed forces desperate for rifles the U.S. Marine Corps bought several thousand of these Johnson rifles for their Special Forces.  The Dutch military also purchased several thousand for their forces in Sumatra and Java, which were threatened by the Japanese who were taking and occupying land in the South Pacific.  The Johnson Model Of 1941 was used and carried by these U.S. Marines for some time until M1 Garand production caught up with demand and the Johnson was replaced in the field.  While the Johnson had some innovative and handy features that the M1 Garand lacked, ultimately it was not as reliable in the harsh Pacific theatre environments as the Garand, and lost the battle for official acceptance.  This particular example is serial number B1317 and is a beautiful original finish rifle.  There is no way to verify one way or another whether this rifle was in USMC service or Dutch military service, however, it is in the military configuration.  One interesting feature of this example is the front sight, which has had the protective ears ground off.  This alteration was something that the USMC Raiders did to their Johnsons.  This Johnson Model Of 1941 also has a bayonet lug, a feature that the Dutch and USMC rifles shared.  The numbered parts are all mismatched, which is common, but the parts all share the same patina and parkerizing tone and have obviously been together for a very long time.  The original stock set is in excellent condition and is free from cracks or repairs.  The wood shows only some handling marks and small dings and dents, nothing major that takes away from the great look of this rifle.  The bore in this rifle is superb.  It is bright and clean with no pitting or erosion and the rifling still looks sharp and strong.  Everything on this Johnson Model Of 1941 works 100% like the day it left the factory.  All of the controls work perfectly and the action goes into battery with authority.  These John rifles are few and far between and they seem to keep going up in value every year.  This is a chance to get a very attractive military configuration Johnson Model Of 1941 that would be very hard to upgrade in condition.
