Description:
I am selling another rifle out of my personal collection. This one is a very nice and interesting prewar (circa 1911) W.J. Jeffery big bore bolt action rifle in the venerable .404 Jeffery cartridge. Some say that the .404 Jeffery is the perfect Safari rifle cartridge as it is hard hitting and soft shooting while adequate for hunting a wide range of animals from plains game to elephant.
This particular prewar example is in very nice and usable condition. It has been restocked and restored by the late Master Gunmaker Ed Webber in 2002 as per the signature inside the stock. This one features a 24.5” barrel with a ramped beaded front sight with a rear sight featuring one standing leaf, Mauser flag safety, ebony forend tip and case colored metal grip cap.
LOP is 14-1/2" to the end of the black rubber butt pad, and a weight of 8lbs 14 oz. All specs perfectly suited for this caliber. Exceptionally nice wood with dual recoil bolts and very nice overall condition. It has been well cared for over the years. I recently had it checked for feeding and function with factory Hornady ammo by a well-known gunsmith including installing a brand new magazine spring. Thus, it should be good to go!
It is slim and trim as a good prewar British sporter should be and it is very handy to the shoulder. It has not been drilled and tapped for a scope. This is a nice example of a classic British big game rifle in a wonderful big bore cartridge executed by its namesake British maker. These don't come up for sale often.
Please add the cost of actual shipping and insurance to your FFL to the sales price. I can accept cashier’s checks or select electronic payments.
Please email me with any questions or wish to see additional pictures. Thanks!
