HOLLAND & HOLLAND Best Quality magazine rifle MODELE DE LUXE Mauser TAKE DOWN, .375 H&H MAG. RIFLE CIRCA 1970.
For collectors, this is the quintessential premium bolt action Mauser-type rifle. If you had only one bolt action rifle in your collection to represent the best bolt action rifle in the world – where cost is no factor, this is it!
For safari hunters, with this rifle in hand, every PH (Professional Hunter) will be drooling. They may say there are other great guns out there, but no one can challenge that this one isn’t at the top of the list.
Holland & Holland didn’t miss a trick when building this rifle. The action is a Mauser Oberndorf 98 action with special Holland & Holland bolt handle. Barrel is round tapered 24 1/2” long, with one standing leaf regulated for H&H’s 270 grain bullet (marked 270) and one folding express sight regulated for H&H’s 360 grain bullet (marked 360) mounted on island sight block; a barrel-band front ramp with folding hood; and barrel banded front sling swivel. Takedown release is accommodated by one large action screw. The steel bottom metal has a detachable floor plate which is engraved “MODELE DE LUXE” in a stylized banner. Full engraving of deluxe Acanthus scrolls are on receiver, floor plate and trigger guard.
With strong fiddleback figure, the extra deluxe English walnut stock has rich color and is artfully shaped with high comb that blends into a perfectly shaped beaded cheekpiece. It has classic point-pattern hand-checkering with genuine horn forend tip (note horn colors as opposed to flat ebony black) and finished with Holland’s hand-polished French oil, complete with ¾” leather-covered recoil pad. LOP is 13 5/8” over pad (which is 1/8” longer than Winchester’s Pre-64 Model 70 in 375). Other stock accoutrements include an engraved recoil crossbolt, casehardened steel trapdoor pistol grip cap (for spare sight), rear sling swivel stud, and gold oval for owner’s initials.
Metal is finished with the highest quality rust-blued finish. The action is fitted with an adjustable single-stage trigger stamped with the word, ENGLAND, and original Mauser flag safety as well as an FN-type tangside safety. Weight is 9 lb, 4 oz with scope.
Barrel is inscribed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND, 13 BRUTON STREET, LONDON”. The scope is a new High-end Austrian scope, Kahles 2-7x36 (perfect magnification for this caliber), mounted with H & H’s proprietary quick detachable rings, numbered to the rifle. The magazine holds 4 rounds; the rifle has been regulated for the 270 grain bullet. As with all Holland & Holland rifles, it is extremely accurate and remains ready to take into Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Namibia or South Africa.
Condition: 100% original Holland and Holland in every respect. Comes with its original leather luggage case with labels inside and out, compartmentalized for the takedown components with scope. Condition would grade 99% as this rifle has seen little use, with mint bore; it looks as if it could have left the maker last week.
