Henry Big Boy Brass Side Gate .45 Colt 20” Octagon H006GC New in Box
Description:
“Made in America or not at all.” That’s Henry Repeating Arms Co.’s slogan. The Henry Big Boy is available in .45 Colt, .44 Magnum, .41 Magnum, .357 Magnum, and .327 Federal Magnum. All of the calibers are SASS approved so any Cowboy Action shooters can use any Big Boy in competition. This 100% American made rifle is chambered for the legendary .45 Colt round which originally introduced in 1873 for the Colt Peacemaker. While that pistol is often shown being paired in with the famous Winchester Model 1873 lever-action rifle, people who bought their Peacemaker chambered for the .45 Colt could not enjoy the benefits of being able to use one cartridge in two guns as could be done with other calibers. This was due to Winchester’s refusal to chamber their rifles in the .45 Colt, likely due to a refusal to put Colt’s name on a Winchester rifle. Conversely, Colt had no qualms about chambering the Peacemaker in Winchester’s .44-40, .38-40, and .32-20 rounds. Granted, these cartridges where usually listed on Colt’s barrels with the phrase .44 WCF, .38 WCF, and .32 WCF (WCF = Winchester Center Fire). This allowed Colt to avoid putting Winchester’s name on their pistols while being able to make money off of the two guns, one cartridge concept. Granted, these cartridges where usually listed on Colt’s barrels with the phrase .44 WCF, .38 WCF, and .32 WCF (WCF = Winchester Center Fire). This allowed Colt to avoid putting Winchester’s name on their pistols while being able to make money off of the two guns, one cartridge concept. That Winchester chose not to do something similar and make money from sales of the Peacemaker in .45 Colt is considered one of the company’s worst marketing decisions. It is a shame that the Henry Big Boy did not yet exist as its presence on the market and the sales generated by those chambered in the .45 would likely have made Winchester reconsider their decision fairly quickly. The Big Boy’s stock is made of American walnut and is the classical straight-grip type. The octagonal barrel is 20” long. Total length of the rifle is 38”. Magazine capacity is a generous 10 rounds. As this is the side gate model, users have the choice of loading the rifle via the tube or the conventional side gate. The latter would allow for quicker loading. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Henry’s BB-RSM scope mount. This rifle is new in the box and ready to go.
