CIVIL WAR ERA HENRY RIFLE
Description: 24 inch barrel chambered in 44 RF with a bore that shows visible rifling and scattered light pits. Sights include a blade front and folding ladder rear graduated to 1,000 yards. Barrel and magazine are an aged gray patina with traces of blue. Brass receiver has a nice patina with a few little usage mars. Hammer and lever are a brown/gray color. Walnut buttstock is a professionally made replacement that is a little ill fitting at the tangs. Brass buttplate and sling swivels. A small center-punch "Dot" stamping behind the lower rear tang screw. This is one of the three factory inspector markings. This rifle was made in June of 1864. A nice entry level example of a Civil War Henry rifle. -"That damned Yankee rifle that can be loaded on Sunday and fired all week"-. The historical significance of the Henry rifle as both a Civil War rifle and as the predecessor to the famous Winchester rifles.
