1819 Dated HARPERS FERRY U.S. M1803 Military Smoothbored FLINTLOCK Musket
First U.S. Military Produced Flintlock “Rifle”
Description: 1819 Dated HARPERS FERRY U.S. M1803 Military Smoothbored FLINTLOCK Musket First U.S. Military Produced Flintlock “Rifle” Here we present an antique Harpers Ferry U.S. Model 1803 Flintlock Smoothbore Musket, manufactured in 1819 at the Harpers Ferry Arsenal in Harpers Ferry, Virginia. While the Harpers Ferry Model 1795 became America’s first smoothbore, the Model 1803 became the country’s first standardized “rifle” design. The Model 1803 was adopted by both the Army and Marines, who appreciated the accuracy of this rifled model. Remaining consistent with other guns of the period, it featured a long wooden body, flintlock action, and muzzle based loading. The rifle featured a brass trigger pull assembly and ring guard, along with a patch box that was embedded into the stock. The caliber was .54 with either a 33 or 36 inch barrel, depending on production batch which was of two major runs. Production spanned from 1803 through 1819 with a total of 19,726 units produced. The Model 1803 saw combat service in the War of 1812, and stood the test of time when it was featured once again in the Mexican-American War. Some even remained in play at the beginning of the American Civil War, when just about any firearm was placed into service due to shortages on both sides. These are believed to have been carried io the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition from 1804 through 1806. The overall condition is good. Modestly refinished. The action holds the half cock notch but not full cock. The bore is smooth and dim. The stock has been repaired all the way around the lock and left stock flat. Faint inspection marks remain on the left stock flat. There is also a repair about midway under the forearm. A great piece of American history! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 36 inches. Caliber: .60 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
