Description:
Excellent condition fully custom Paul Jaeger 257 Ackley Improved on modern M98 style controlled round feed (CRF) and extract action. Finely wrap-around checkering on pistol grip and forearm, double-shadowline cheekpiece, ebony grip/tip, trim/lightweight, modern squared, fine grain euro walnut Jaeger stock fitted to accomodate the 26" bbl while not adding heft to the gun. Flattened/knurled bolt handle, jeweled bolt and extractor. Custom Jaeger trigger. 4-14x42 Burris w/ ballistic plex reticle atop Talley steel bases/rings. Shoots nearly 1-hole groups at 100 yds and <1" at 300 yds. Can use factory 257 Roberts ammo or reloaded, fireformed Improved factory brass. This is P.O. Ackley's greatest-performing Improved cartridge (2,700 fps Factory vs. 3,450 fps Improved). Both factory and improved rounds shoot exceptionally well. Includes dies, brass, bullets, and some factory and handloaded ammo. Originally outfitted with a fixed-power target scope, gun was initially won as a workplace award by an old-timer (RIP) that used it very sparingly for long-range target shooting near Williamsport PA. I was lucky enough to be the inheritor, put 100 rds through it (using both factory ammo. and winner's recipies) target shooting and taking 3 deer (at distances of ~200, 300 and 400 yds!), 1 antelope (420 yds) and several prairie dogs on the same trip. 3,200-3,450 fps capable with diff. load combos! It's essentially on the heels of a 257 Wby sans the bbl wear, greater heft and ammo expense. It could've been built on a SA but Jaeger was smart to utilize a LA so that bullets could be seated out farther, accomodating more powder. Very pleasant to shoot. ~3.5 lb trigger pull believed to be an internally, fully adjustable Jaeger trigger as such was common on fully custom orders. The build of this particular gun and round combo is pure genius.
