WW2 South African No. 4 Mk. 1* Rifle by Savage & Stevens
Description: Serial #34C4896, .303 British, 25" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a 1942-dated, "US PROPERTY"-marked rifle that has retained 97-98% of the original matte blue finish. There is silvering at the muzzle, as well as along the raised edges and projections, and the matching numbered bolt exhibits some further mild wear and finish loss on the bearing surfaces and the handle. The receiver has a small import caliber stamp on the left side, as well as a large "U (Broad Arrow)" Union of South Africa property stamp on the top of the receiver ring. Additionally, a two aperture battle sight is fitted. The "S (in circle)"-marked walnut buttstock, "S"-marked forend, and handguards are in fine-near excellent condition with a few small handling marks scattered about the original military oil finish. The rifle is accompanied by a single, Stevens-made magazine. This is a fine, war-dated, South African No. 4, and would make a terrific addition to any collection. FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
