WORLD WAR I Era ISHAPORE No. 1 Mk. III 410 Single Shot SHOTGUN Conversion
Short Magazine Lee-Enfield CONVERSION w/SLING
Description: WORLD WAR I Era ISHAPORE No. 1 Mk. III 410 Single Shot SHOTGUN Conversion Short Magazine Lee-Enfield CONVERSION w/SLING Here we present a C&R Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) No. 1 MK III Rifle, made circa 1918 at the Ishapore Rifle Factory, north of Calcutta and converted to a single shot 410 Shotgun in 1948. In 1904, a rifle factory was established by the British at Ichhapur, anglicized as Ishapore, and began production of the Lee–Enfield rifle, which has continued more or less until the mid-1980s, and possibly the present. The Lee-Enfield is a bolt-action, magazine fed, repeating rifle that served as the main firearm used by the military forces of the British Empire and Commonwealth during the first half of the 20th century. The best-known Lee–Enfield rifle, the SMLE Mk III, was introduced on January 26, 1907. During the First World War, the SMLE Mk III was found to be too complicated and expensive to manufacture, and demand outpaced the supply. In late 1915 the Mk III* was introduced incorporating several changes, the most prominent of which were the deletion of the magazine cut-off mechanism, which when engaged permits the feeding and extraction of single cartridges only while keeping the cartridges in the magazine in reserve, and the long-range volley sights. Rifles with some or all of these features present are found, as the changes were implemented at different times in different factories and as stocks of parts were depleted. The overall condition is good. This example has been arsenal refurbished. It features a strong action, with a bore that is mirror bright and smooth. The stock is in solid condition overall, showing signs of sanding and reoiling. All markings are clear. The canvas sling is in good condition. The right side of the receiver stock socket is marked “1918,” while the left side bears a “1948” date. Own the original! This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 25 inches. Caliber: 410 Shotgun (Originally .303 British) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee.
