Very Nice Antique Canadian Lee-Enfield Mk. I Cavalry Carbine
Description: Serial #892A, .303 British, 20 3/4? barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some traces of mild freckling within the grooves. This is an 1898 dated carbine by Enfield and has retained 80-85% of the of the original blue finish that has even silvering along the hard edges, projections, and the bearing surfaces of the receiver and matching numbered bolt. Mild plum-brown freckling can also be seen on the metal throughout while the walnut stock, forend, and handguard have scattered light handling marks and surface blemishes throughout the military oil finish with crisp ?I? and ?1? stamps on the right side under a small sanded spot where the original markings were removed at some point. The brass stock disk was buffed clean and then re-stamped ?127? during its service life. The carbine comes with a correct short magazine but does not have the cleaning rod (these were commonly removed and in fact, the Mk. I* specs removed the cleaning rod provision altogether). The carbine was originally acquired in Canada and falls into the block of numbers from which the 1,000 carbines were selected to supply the Mounted Police. This would seem to be borne out by the removal of the stock markings (presumably done when the carbine left MP stores for transfer to another police force or commercial sale). This is a truly desirable Lee-Enfield carbine, with possible R.N.W.M.P. Connection, that is in fine overall condition and also has the added plus of being an antique. {Ref. ?Arms and Accoutrements of the Mounted Police 1873-1973? by Roger F. Phillips and Donald J. Klancher; 1982} Antique SOLD Manufacturer: Enfield Model: Mk.1 Caliber Info: .303 Gauge Info: .303 |
