South African Marked No. 4 Mk. I* Rifle by Long Branch
Description: Serial #18L6682, .303 British, 25" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This Canadian-made, 1942 dated rifle has retained about 90-92% of the original matte blue finish that has faded along the exposed projections, at the muzzle, and on the bearing surfaces and handle of the matching numbered bolt. A large “U (Broad Arrow)" property stamp is present on the receiver ring denoting issue to Union of South Africa troops, and there are further property markings in the wood: “C (Broad Arrow) on the matching forend, and a further “U (Broad Arrow)" on the underside of the stock wrist. The wood itself has numerous small handling marks and minor blemishes. A matching condition magazine, and khaki canvassling are included. This is a fine example of a Canadian-made, WW2 No. 4 rifle, used by the South Africans.
