Lee Enfield SMLE Mk. IV* .22 Rifle Officers Training Corps Trainer
Description: Serial #J64996, .22 LR, 25" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This single shot converted Mk. III* has a 1918 date on the wrist, ".22 No. 2" marked bolt head, and British military acceptance stamps throughout. The metal retains 90-92% of the armory re-applied blue finish with some plum-brown fading and silvering at the high edges and projections. The matching numbered nosecap retains a commensurate amount of an added Suncorite finish, and there is further gray fading on the handle of the matching numbered bolt. The wood has a very nice added varnish finish over scattered minor handling marks and surface blemishes throughout, heaviest on the buttstock which has a crisply marked brass disk on the right side: "O.T.C. / S.S. 1" (Officer Training Corps / unknown school abbreviation). A period canvas sling is also installed. This is an excellent, well marked .22 training rifle conversion, and would make a splendid addition to any collection.
