Civil War Dated Pattern 1853 Musket by Tower w/ Note Possible Rosensteel Collection
Description: NSN, .577 Caliber, 39" barrel with a dark, pitted bore. This musket has an 1862 dated, "TOWER" marked lock, and has an overall plum-brown patina with even pitting and surface oxidation throughout. The breech of the barrel has extensive light & moderate pitting, a crude field repair to the forward lock screw, and the brass furniture has developed a dark brown tarnish over time. The English walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout, and exhibits the partially visible remnants of an indistinct stamp on the come, just ahead of the buttplate tang, possibly a Confederate import marking. The ramrod is included, and a small tag is affixed to the trigger guard that states the musket was probably Confederate due to the repaired lock, and was picked up on the Gettysburg battlefield a few weeks after the battle. The tag further states that it was once part of the famous Rosensteel Collection of Gettysburg artifacts. Unfortunately, any attendant documents were destroyed in a fire, and so we cannot confirm the above. Regardless, this Enfield musket has an attractive relic appearance, and would make a fine piece for display. Antique; Price: $2,495.00 Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
