An English made boxlock double rifle chambered for the .600 Nitro Express 3" cartridge. It has 26” blacked steel chopper lump rifled nitro proofed barrels fit with extractors, doll's head third fastener, quarter rib which is stippled and concave, lined express rear sights - 1 standing sight regulated at 100 yards and 2 folding leaf sights regulated for 200 and 300 yards. Island base bladed front sight with flip up night (moon) sight. Top of the right barrel is roll marked "JOHN WILKES." while the top of the left barrel is roll marked "31 GERRARD ST LONDON.W.". Bottom rib with loop for sling and is marked "600 3 INCH CASE // CORDITE 110 GRS BULLET 900 GRS". Barrels flats stamped with London proofs, "CORDITE 110-900 MAX" Grey patina boxlock action is engraved with African game scenes with supporting English Arabesque scrolls. An elephant in tall grass is engraved on the right, while a rhinoceros in tall grass is engraved on the left and "JOHN WILKES" is engraved on both sides of the action body. The action is fit with disc set strikers, sideclips, automatic safety with "SAFE" engraved ahead of the engraved and checkered slide safe, double triggers with the front being hinged protected by a blacked scroll engraved trigger guard that extends to a full length bottom strap which is engraved with scrolls and the serial number. Reddish-brown English walnut stock with semi-smooth checkered pistol grip. Grip with steel grip cap. Loop for sling, vacant stock oval, Splinter fore-end with Anson style push button release and scroll engraved escutcheon, 14-3/4” LOP over a Silver's style orange rubber recoil pad, 14 Lbs. - 11 Oz. Rifle resides in British tan oak & leather case with a "JOHN WILKES" paper trade label and vacant charge card. Case is fit with snap caps, cleaning tools and reloading equipment.
