Johan Fanzoi
.450 No.2 Ejector Double Rifle.
Description: Johan Fanzoi, Ferlach .450 No. 2 Ejector Double Rifle. The action on this rifle is a sideplated boxlock with lovely open scroll engraving on a coin finish with gold borders, extended top tang over comb, articulated front trigger, both triggers in gold, ejectors are well timed, the action is as new and the standing breech shows almost no sign of this rifle having been fired, Greener cross bolt, non-auto safe, bolstered action with the let in for the lumps being bevelled in a very attractive fashion, all screws are indexed and unmarred, disk set strikers, double Purdey underbolting. The barrels are 24 1/2" with 1 standing and two folded sights, small bead front sight, the front sight and the quarter rib are really attractively shaped and stippled, "Custom Made by J Fanzoi- Ferlach" in gold on the top rib, 480 GRS in gold on the right barrel and .450 No 2 in gold on the left, bores, chambers and blue are all as new. The stock is a pistol grip with a narrow beaver tail forend that looks more traditionally English than Austrian, the cheek piece is a traditional style, chequering and finish are great on both ends, 14 1/4" length of pull to a black recoil pad and the weight is 10 lbs 14 oz. The .450 No. 2 cartridge is easy to source components for and remains popular to this day. It is a 3 1/2" case originally loaded with 80 grains of Cordite pushing a 480 grain bullet at a muzzzle velocity of 2175 feet per second. These ballistics are easily reproduced with modern substitutes. John Taylor thought this round was introduced by Jeffery and stated that this round had the lowest chamber pressure of any Nitro Express. He thought this was due to the fact that the other two common .450 rounds of the era were developed from black powder rounds and could cause extraction problems due to this brass cases of the time. This round solved all of that and John Taylor stated in 1948 that he had 4 rifles in this round and had at the time killed hundreds of Elephant with them and in the same volume he reproduces a note from October of 1933 in camp Lifunda PEA " Red ink today Brother! 9 Buffalo with 7 shots from D.B. .450 No.2 Good Work. It was nice shootin John; and good huntin' too. But don't get cocky son. 'Tain't goats or sheep you're huntin'. Never forget these Bhoyos can hit back, and hit hard. But I'll say again, it was nice work an will help to pull your average of kills to cartridges. Keep acomin', son, keep acomin!"
