Vintage Custom FN Heavy Barrel Varmint Rifle in .22-250 Caliber by Stuart Vaughn w/ Leupold M12 AO Scope
** Excellent Varmint Rig! ** SOLD
Description: This is a very nice and classy vintage custom .22-250 caliber varmint rifle made by the late Stuart Vaughn, who was based in Frankfort, Ky. It features a FN action, a 26" Inch heavy barrel (dated 1966 in front of the reciever on the bottom), a fully-adjustable Sako trigger, a Fajen Aristrocrat stock, and a Leupold M12 AO scope (12X w/ adjustable objective). Mr. Vaughn built custom rifles in the 1960's and 70's for customers here in Kentucky and all over the country during his rifle building days. He quickly earned a reputation for building a classy and clean purpose-built rifle that was guaranteed to be extremely accurate. If he built it and it wouldn't shoot super-tight groups it wouldn't leave his shop for delivery until it did. This rifle is a perfect example of his work. The original gloss blue finish still looks great on this rifle, and it rates a conservative 96% with only a few small spots of finish wear/handling marks visible under close inspection. The worst of these spots is about 2 inches from the end of the forend on the left side of the barrel, and as you can see in the pictures it does very little to hurt the overall appearance of this rifle. The 26" inch barrel is stamped with the caliber on the left side as well as Stuart Vaughn's initials in an oval. The bore in this rifle is pristine and bright. The rifling still has sharp lands and grooves and there is no pitting, erosion, or imperfections visible of any kind. The hinged floorplate on this rifle has the original owner's name engraved on it, "Hyatt". The custom finished stock is a Fajen Aristocrat model that Mr. Vaughn hand-inletted, checkered, installed sling swivel studs, and finished. It is in excellent condition and is free from cracks, chips, or repairs. The gloss finish is 99% intact and you really have to look close to find anything worthy of a deduction. The vintage Leupold M12 scope is also in excellent condition. The optics are clear and bright with no cracks, chips, or visible scratches. The adjustable objective lens turns smoothly and functions properly, as do both the windage and elevation adjustments. There is no doubt that it will hold zero perfectly, but if for some reason it does not it can be fixed for free thru Leupold's lifetime warranty program. The scope comes with a factory sunshade and is mounted on Weaver bases and unknown maker rings (This rifle & scope deserve better rings!) Everything on this rifle works 100% like the day it left Mr. Vaughn's shop. The action is smooth and precise, and all of the controls work like they were designed to. The fully-adjustable Sako trigger is especially nice, it breaks cleanly with a light pull with no grittines or slop in it at it's current setting. The trigger shoe can be removed by the next owner if he or she chooses. If you have been looking for a well-made and accurate vintage custom rifle to do some long range shooting or varmint hunting with, this Stuart Vaughn-built rifle would be an excellent choice. It was built with some of the very best components available when it was made by a gunsmith/custom rifle builder with an impeccable reputation.
