We have a beautiful one-of-a-kind commemorative Savage 99 with a Leupold VX-III, 1.5-5x Scope mounted in engraved Refield Rings, Custom Oak and leather Woolrich Case, a one-of-a-kind custom knife and sheath designed using Ned’s own text and drawings as reference for his “Perfect Hunting Knife,” a sealed box of Vintage Savage ammunition in .300 Savage, and a leather sling. Also included is a brochure describing the contents and the craftsmen who contributed to the collection, excerpts from Ned’s works, and more, along with a 4-inch Heritage Patch from the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art located outside historic Millersburg, Pennsylvania.
This collector-grade rifle is stocked in Pennsylvania English Walnut and features an ebony Schnabel fore-end tip and 26 LPI checkering. The receiver, take-down hardware, grip cap and butt plate have all been extensively engraved and gold-inlaid. The receiver features a game scene taken from Ned’s December 1969 installment of Gone for the Day. Additionally, the five metal finishes required to simulate an early Savage factory custom rifle have been applied.
The “Perfect Hunting Knife” was outlined in a 1977 Ned Smith magazine article of the same name and features a 4-inch flat-ground, drop-point stainless-steel blade with stainless guard and butt engraved to match the rifle. The whitetail deer antler used in the grip is from Ned’s own antler collection, and the walnut center section is from the same material used to fabricate the rifle stock.
