Description: sale pending to John 10 day hold 2-28-22- THIS COLT SIGNATURE SERIES IS A REPLICA OF THE 1861 SPRINGFIELD ARTILLERY CARBINE. IT IS SERIAL #A5014 AND IS A 58 CALIBER RIFLE. IT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND WAS ONLY USED FOR REENACTING TO FIRE BLANK. IT HAS AN EXCELLENT BORE AND EXCELLENT MECHANICS. THE FINISH HAS BEEN AGED TO AN ERA CORRECT CONDITION . TYPICAL SCATTERED LIGHT DINGS ON THE STOCK. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE STANDARD TWO LEAF FLIP UP REAR SIGHT. A NEW MUSKET CAP NIPPLE HAS BEEN INSTALLED. IT COMES WITH AN ANTIQUE US MARKED BAYONET THAT WAS DAMAGED OUT OF ROUND. I'VE BEEN FILING FOR A WHILE AND IT GOES ON ABOUT 2/3 OF THE WAY BUT NEEDS TO BE FINISHED TO FIT ENTIRELY ON THE BARREL. The 2-band reproduction of the Colt Special were produced during the 1990’s by Chattahoochee BPS Company, as part of the Colt Signature Series. The guns were approved as authentic reproductions of the originals and approved for use in competition by the North South Skirmish Association. About 100,000 of the original Colt Model 1861 Special Muskets were produced throughout the Civil War period. They had some features in common with British Enfield rifle-muskets. Among these were the S-shaped hammer and the use of screws rather than springs to secure the barrel bands. Although Colt was the largest single manufacturer of these arms, other contractors, including Amoskeag and E. G. Lamson, produced an additional 50,000 Model 1861 Special Muskets.
