RARE Experimental Model 1867 Barton H. Jenks ROLLING BLOCK Military Rifle
Post-CIVIL WAR Single Shot Big Bore Trials Rifle
Description: RARE Experimental Model 1867 Barton H. Jenks ROLLING BLOCK Military Rifle Post-CIVIL WAR Single Shot Big Bore Trials Rifle Here we present an antique Barton H. Jenks Rolling Block Model 1867 Rifle made in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania circa the late 1860s. The Jenks family was chock-full of innovators and entrepreneurs. Joseph Jenks received the first patent in the early American Colonies, his in relation to sawmills. William Jenks (Uncle) designed the unique mule ear carbines. Alfred Jenks (Father) designed textile machinery and factory equipment. The Jenks family went on to pioneer modern refrigeration technology. Thus, when Civil War broke out, the Jenks family was already prepped and primed to manufacture firearms. Naturally, the family produced muskets for the Union. Post war, Barton Jenks’s firearm interest peaked and resulted in the breech loading design we have here. Barton’s design looks quite similar to the Remington Rolling Block, but a main difference in function is that pulling the breech block open also cocks the hammer in one motion. The breech block is self-locking, and the hammer operates independently. This example is still configured in its original rimfire, escaping the centerfire conversion that many rifles from this era experienced. Though this rifle was submitted to both the U.S. and New York State for trials in 1867, they were never accepted. After his trial attempts, Jenks ultimately moved on to mining and railroad ventures. The overall condition is good. The walnut stock is solid. The bore is in good condition. Being a prototype, this one is not a fully functional weapon. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33-3/8 inches. Caliber: .50 Rimfire Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
