European CIVIL WAR Era Antique .60 Cal. Smoothbore PERCUSSION Rifle/Shotgun WESTERN EUROPEAN Rifle Converted to a SHOTGUN
Description: European CIVIL WAR Era Antique .60 Cal. Smoothbore PERCUSSION Rifle/Shotgun WESTERN EUROPEAN Rifle Converted to a SHOTGUN Here we present an antique Civil War Era European Percussion Smoothbored Rifle, made circa the early 1860s likely in Western Europe. The American Civil War happened during a period of great firearms advancement throughout the world, but particularly in the United States. The primary transition was from muzzle-loaders to breech-loaders, from loose ball and powder to self-contained cartridges. Dozens of different small arms, namely cavalry carbines, were used in the conflict. The war saw obsolete technology fighting next to the cutting edge, and both sides needed it all. Imagine the logistical nightmare of supplying so many different types of ammunition! When the Civil War began, both sides were desperate for small arms. Arms purchasers and speculators scoured Europe and England for small arms available for purchase. Though this example has an unknown maker, it is possible, if not likely, a maker who saw an opportunity to cash in on the American conflict. Strong action. The bore has darkened but remains in good shape for its age. There is a large unrepaired crack that wraps the wrist and does have movement when pressure is applied. The stock has a nice smooth finish and is aesthetically appealing for display. Loose barrel band. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 35-7/8 inches. Caliber: .60 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1200 #227632 SOLD Antique: Yes |
