CONFEDERATE Antique FAYETTEVILLE ARMORY Civil War 1863 Dated Civil War Era Musket
Description: CONFEDERATE Antique FAYETTEVILLE ARMORY Civil War 1863 Dated Civil War Era Musket Here we present an antique Confederate Fayetteville Armory Musket made circa 1863. The Fayetteville Rifle was a 2 banded rifle produced at the Confederate States Armory in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The machinery and many of the components which produced these weapons was primarily that captured at the United States Arsenal at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, which was previously used to produce the U.S. Model 1855 Rifle. The weapon was produced in .58 caliber from early 1862 until the capture and destruction of the arsenal by Union forces under General W. T. Sherman on March 11, 1865. In February, 1862, the Fayetteville Observer, in describing the beginning of arms’ manufacturing at the arsenal, reported: “A few days ago we were shown one of a number of rifles furnished at the C. S. Armory here. It is much the same in general appearance, as the U.S. rifle for some years made at Harper’s Ferry and at Springfield, Mass.; but for certain improvements, in the matter of sword bayonet, Maynard primer, and perfection of finish in all parts, it must be pronounced very superior. The back sights are set for 800 and 500 yards. Altogether, we think it the handsomest specimen of small arms, rifle or musket, we have ever seen-reflecting the greatest credit upon all concerned with its manufacture.” The lock is marked with an eagle and “C.S.A.” in the middle, “FAYETTEVILLE” on the front and “1863” at the tail. The left barrel flat shows inspector proofs. The front sight has been replaced with a small bead. The barrel has been bored out from .58 caliber to .63 caliber. The butt plate is marked “CSA”. The left stock flat bears a faint inspector cartouche that shows the initials “PB”. Brass fittings throughout. “C.IE” has been scratched into the right side of the butt stock. The overall condition is good. Patinated throughout. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. The stock shows use and weathering and remains solid. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 33 inches. Caliber: .63 Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
