One of a series of rifles intended for non-military presumably Government use as discussed in Roy Marcot’s book “SPENCER REPEATING FIREARMS” on page 40, Note #1. Excellent and made as it looks with short carbine type forend and 30” barrel. Not an altered Spencer military rifle. .52 cal. with 6 groove rifling and original Lawrence rear sight. No post Civil War alterations and completely as produced during the Civil War. Excellent with faint blue and patina mix on barrel. Receiver a crisp dark patina with traces of case hardening. Perfect Spencer Repeating Arms Company address on top of frame. Superb wood with all the original finish with light handling patina. Excellent working order and very nice bore. Only a small of these made.
