CITY OF PHILADELPHIA Andrew WURFFLEIN MILITIA MUSKET CIVIL WAR .72
Antique SAARN PRUSSIAN Model 1809/31 Infantry Arm
Description: CITY OF PHILADELPHIA Andrew WURFFLEIN MILITIA MUSKET CIVIL WAR .72 Antique SAARN PRUSSIAN Model 1809/31 Infantry Arm Here we present an antique Saarn Armory Prussian Model 1809/31 Musket, manufactured circa 1829. This example would have started out life as a flintlock musket that was converted likely sometime just before the start of the American Civil War. The Potsdam musket was the standard infantry weapon of the Royal Prussian Army from the 18th century until the military reforms of the 1840s. Also marked on the barrel is “CITY/OF PHILADA/A. WURFFLEIN”. Andrew Wurfflein arrived in New York from Prussia in 1832 and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. By 1840, he was granted U.S. citizenship. In 1844, his brother John, also a gunsmith by trade, immigrated. They worked together for some time, and were two of the six that founded the Shuetzen Verein, a prominent German shooting club in Philadelphia. Their work included rifles and pistols, including close copies of their Philadelphia neighbor Henry Deringer’s hit pocket pistol. This musket would have been used in Prussian conflicts during the 1840s and 50s, including the Egyptian-Ottoman War, the Greater Poland Uprising, the Revolutions of 1848, and the First Schleswig War, before being imported to the US through Andrew Wurfflein’s business for the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The overall condition is near fine. Original finish. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and patinated. There are many Prussian markings throughout. The City of Philadelphia/Andrew Wurfflein markings are clear. The butt plate is marked for the Prussian 30th Landwehr Regiment. The stock is solid. A fantastic piece of history! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 41-1/4 inches. Caliber: .72 percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE.
