Berdan Sharpshooters Sharps M1859 DST Rifle - JT/OWA markings with unique soldier carving
Description:
Rare rifle - one of the 2000 produced specifically for Berdan's elite Sharpshooters in the Civil War. This one is complete and appears all original with the sole exception of the hammer screw which appears to have been with the gun for some time. JT cartouche outline clear and some of the "JT" remains within it. OWA inspector mark on breech flat clearly visible. Wood is in good shape with no cracks or significant dings, plenty of rifling remains and operations are intact (including setting and activation of hair trigger). Serial number of 56978 on tang matches underside of barrel. Very unique soldier carving on opposite side of buttstock "TRUTH LOVE".
If you are familar with these rifles, you know how expensive they can be (just look at some recent prices). I am selling off some of my collection at very fair prices. I have another Berdan Sharps that I was planning on keeping and will keep either that one or this one. That one is in very good shape with clear JT cartouche and crisp markings but that one I would not let go for less than $15k.
