CARTRIDGE CONVERSION SR Carbine CIVIL WAR/WILD WEST US Contract Saddle Ring Carbine Here we present an antique Sharps New Model 1863 Saddle Ring Carbine, made in Hartford, Connecticut circa 1863-65, then converted to U.S. .50-70 Govt circa 1867 for use in the West by the federal government. Over 100,000 Sharps rifles and carbines were purchased and used by the federal government during the American Civil War. They went on to experience some of the most exciting times in American history during the Indian Wars, the settling of the Western Frontier, and the connecting of the coasts with the railroad. The overall condition is near fine. Original blue finish with some case colors still present. The action is excellent. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is a good cartouche and other inspection marks are visible. There is a stable split on the bottom of the fore arm. The stock is otherwise solid. Own the original!
