Antique B.C. WOOD New York Percussion COMBINATION Over/Under RIFLE-SHOTGUN
CIVIL WAR ERA Gun Made in PAINTED POST, NEW YORK
Description: Antique B.C. WOOD New York Percussion COMBINATION Over/Under RIFLE-SHOTGUN CIVIL WAR ERA Gun Made in PAINTED POST, NEW YORK Here we present an antique B. C. Wood Percussion Rifle & Shotgun Over/Under Combination Gun made circa the 1860s in Painted Post, New York. Barry C. Wood was an active gunmaker working out of southern New York State between 1858 and 1874. As is this example, the barrels were often marked by the barrel maker (B. LOSEY) just in front of the nipple. This over/under percussion gun is a distinct design that New York gun makers seemed to favor during this period marked by westward expansion, hunting, trapping, and frontier living. This rifle over a smoothbore would have given the user two shots instead of one in a day when most people had to make one count. This would have come in handy when hunting various types of game as well as defending oneself against dangerous game or two-legged predators. The smooth bore would have offered versatility in that either shot, a single ball or conical, or a combination of “buck ‘n’ ball” could be used depending on the circumstances. This gun features a double set trigger. The front trigger fires both barrels. The rear trigger “sets” the front trigger for a very light and crisp break. The set trigger was designed to work only for the rifled bore. The barrel is marked “B.C. WOOD/P. POST N.Y.” and the top barrel flat. This is a very nice set up. The overall condition is very good. Original Patina. Strong action. The bores are in good shape for age. Solid stock with an average amount of wear from use. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrels are 33-3/8 inches. Caliber: .40 Rifle over .62 Smoothbore Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #220327 SOLD Antique: Yes |
