** SOLD ** Triplett & Scott Repeating Carbine Civil War Era Carbine in .50 RF Cal **Kentucky Home Guard - Scarce 22 Inch Barrel**
Description: Here we have a very unique Civil War era carbine made by Meridian Manufacturing Company in Meridian, CT between 1864-1865. The Triplett & Scott carbine is chambered for the .50 rimfire cartridge. The rifle uses a very interesting loading action: depressing a latch in the frame behind the hammer allows the barrel to rotate clockwise where the empty is removed and continuing brings the chamber in line with the tubular magazine which holds up to 7 rounds. The rifle was made for the Kentucky Home Guard mustered into service to protect and guard supply lines. Most Triplett & Scott carbines had 30 inch barrels while this more scarce example has a 22 inch barrel. This particular example is in good overall condition having a couple of hairline cracks in the stock in the area of the upper tang. There is one small chip in the back of the forend on the right side. It is missing the sling mount at the top rear but the two lower ones are intact and functional. Mechanically the rifle is in fine condition. The metal has worn to a handsome warm grey patina over the years. If this rifle could talk it would likely have some stories to tell.
