Rare High Condition 1859 Sharps Carbine-Case Colors! Patchbox!
Description: Here is a rare opportunity to own a top quality original 1859 Sharps Carbine. This carbine serial number 34,208 would have been made 1859-1860. Many of these carbines were converted to 50-70 cartridge rifles after the civil war and this carbine would have been in that group. Most of these carbines that come up for sale are later and have "C" prefixes is that stands for 100k. This carbine has no prefix. This carbine has excellent wood with strong cartouches. No indication of sanding as wood fits proudly at every point. The rifle has the original patchbox which is in excellent tight condition. Door operates smooth and feels like new. Some light case colors remain on it with bright blued screws. Lower tang has most of the case colors. Lever lock is tight and works correctly. Correct saddle ring and saddle bar. Lever has some case especially in the underneath area. Top tang has plenty of color and is appropriately marked with serial number "34208". Screws retain most bright blue finish here. Receiver has plenty of color remaining as seen in pictures. Original flip up ladder sight works and is tight. Correctly marked. Barrel retains almost all bluing. Original front sight. Bore is easily a 9/10 and matches the rest of the gun. This carbine even retains the original Lawrence Pellet Primer (usually removed during conversion). This carbine looks as it was either officer issues or a non issued gun. Has the feel of a new gun in your hands. Everyone is always very surprised to learn it's 160 years old! No direct hit on serial number but most likely was part of the shipment to the Indianapolis Armory. Closest numbers are 34468 5th Illinois and 34183 10th Illinois, both are cavalry units. This is listed in the Book titled "Civil War Sharps Carbines and Rifles" by Coates and McAulay. Whiskey Rebellion Firearms is a disabled veteran owned company. We are always available to help as needed. Professional Packaging and priority shipping are included with your purchase. $5599 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you aren't thrilled with your purchase ship it back in the same condition for 100% purchase price. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Sharps Model: 1859 |
