Description: GWYN & CAMPBELL TYPE I PERCUSSION GRAPEVINE CARBINE. ... Civil War ... LAYAWAY? Made by Edward Gwyn and Abner Campbell in Hamilton, Ohio who made approximately 8200 carbines in two types between 1863-64. Flayderman lists at least 19 cavalry units who were issued these weapons during the war. No forearm, walnut stock with rifle butt plate, saddle bar and ring on left side, octagon to round barrel, early large serpentine lever, integral post front sight, folding ladder rear sight. Union Rifle legend on left side of frame, Gwyn and Campbell legend on left side plate. Right side of barrel has PT stamp and the left side of stock has a visible but not legible cartouche. Matching numbers. CONDITION: FINE overall. ..The blue barrel shows through the soft brown patina in areas. The case color receiver has darkened. The stock is solid and proud with assorted dings. Fine working order.
