Antique US SHARPS New Model 1859 .50-70 CARTRIDGE CONVERSION SR Carbine DFC Classic CIVIL WAR / WILD WEST Saddle Ring Carbine
Description: Antique US SHARPS New Model 1859 .50-70 CARTRIDGE CONVERSION SR Carbine DFC Classic CIVIL WAR / WILD WEST Saddle Ring Carbine Here we present an antique U.S. Sharps New Model 1859 Carbine, made circa 1859-63, then converted to .50-70 Govt circa 1867 for use in the West by the federal government. Over 100,000 Sharps rifles and carbines were purchased and used by the federal government during the American Civil War. In 1867, the U.S. Ordnance Department contracted with the Sharps Rifle Company for conversion of over 30,000 Sharps percussion carbines and 1,000 rifles to either the .52-70 rimfire or the .50-70 GOVT centerfire configuration. Some of these arms retained their original six-groove rifling, while the bores of others were re-lined with three-groove rifling. New buttstocks without cartridge boxes were used in all cases where replacement was required, regardless of the original configuration. These carbines were issued to the regular cavalry regiments on the western frontier and remained in service until they were replaced by the Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor Carbine. This is one of the iconic carbines of Western lore, as they were handy, accurate, powerful and reliable guns, and many went to the Western Frontier as trappers, explorers and settlers moved that way. They experienced some of the most exciting times in American history during the Indian Wars, the settling of the West, and the connecting of the coasts with the Transcontinental Railroad. The overall condition is good. Refinished in case colored receiver and blued barrel. The upper receiver tang was cracked and the lower part filled with lead or pewter. There are a couple replacement screws. The action is excellent and the bore is very fine with bright surfaces and sharp rifling. The walnut stock is solid and shows the DFC inspector marking of the armory converted carbines. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 22 inches. Caliber: .50-70 GOVT Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $2900 #230328 Price: $2,900.00 Buy Now Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
