Bronze CANNON RH Brown Co New Haven CT Rare
Description: You are buying a super rare bronze signal or yacht cannon as shown by noted maker RH BROWN & Co NEW HAVEN, CT Lavigne's Patent July 31, 1888 & Feb 18, 1890. Cannon appears to be all original and in near excellent overall condition. I will note below what I observe as possible issues. Cannon has been in the same collection for over 50 years and has not been polished nor cleaned since. I assume it is 12 Gauge as a 12 gauge shell fits. Seems to operate as it should, locks up tight, firing pin functions when lanyard chord is yanked. Wood is substantially sound and intact with some scuffs, small chips and a small, negligible crack on the underside. Cannon overall is about 18" while the barrel is 12"l. Very heavy. Very rare and seldom encountered. My critical observations are: Screw (1 of 4) is missing - visible in image, brass pin holding one wheel is missing, firing pin is inertia - that is, the cannon is fired by yanking on the lanyrd. I do not know if it was ever spring loaded whereas it would fire by gently pulling on the lanyard. Two holes on underside in rear where rear two wheels could have been installed however it apparently was sold without any rear wheels. The knob or handle to adjust elevation is missing. Not sure what else I can tell you except postage and handling in the lower 48 states will be $150. RARE RARE RARE SAFETY NOTICE: Buyer is solely responsible for determining that a used gun or cannon is safe to shoot. The firearms offered have not been test fired! They have been given a visual inspection for selling description purposes only. We are selling this gun as a collectible item only! We make no guarantee that it is safe to shoot or that it will function correctly if fired. It is a requirement that every used firearm (including this one) be inspected and approved by a qualified gunsmith before firing! By or buying, the buyer agrees to hold seller harmless against damages, injury, or death caused by defective merchandise. SOLD Manufacturer: Brown Barrel Length: 12 |
