Stunning 1971 Belgian Browning BAR Grade V 7mm Rem Mag Single Signed by Greco in Original Box
Description: One of the most pristigeous "production" guns from Browning's Belgium era. These rifles were only produced from 1971-1975 and in total less than 500 were completed for all calibers. This is in part due to the cost and time associated with producing such a high quality rifle, this becomes obvious when able to inspect one closely. The stocks were the highest grade available to Browning at the time. They are finished in high gloss and feature hand carved floral patterns separated by finely checkered grip areas. This alone was a time consiming task and expensive material choice. This example being a magnum has a hard rubber butt pad installed at the factory. Next came the engraving. The surface area on these rifles is quite large compared to the other high grade offerings of the Superposed, Bolt Action Rifles, or SA22s at the time. The only comparable model would be the Auto 5 but relatively few examples were produced and no standard higher grade catalog offerings were present for them like other models. This alone added to the work load involved in embelishing as the entire surface area needed to be utilized but boy did Browning deliver. These rifles have some of the finest scenes and gold work you could ask for. Extensive scroll engraving surrounding detailed game scenes with gold inlaid animals. The photos will hopefully do a better job at displaying their quality better than I can describe them. Producing this rifle today would cost an exceptional amount of money. The materials and craftsmanship involved in producing them are not easily sourced these days and if you were able to, you would be lucky to receive something equal in stature. This specific rifle is in very nice condition. It is very close to pristine and the few minor flaws it does have are easily overlooked in my opinion. There is one tight grain crack in the wood behind the receiver on the left side which is common on these guns. Overall I believe this piece can still be rated in the 98-99% range. Being over 50 years old now you will struggle to find an example to beat this one, not only because it is that nice but because so few of these guns exist. It is worth noting that this gun has better engraving than almost every Magnum Grade 5 BAR I've ever encountered. Most all of the smaller animals on the magnum guns are pretty poorly shaped and shaded, the ones on this gun are quite well executed and set it apart from the rest! Single signed by Greco on the left scene behind and below the Elk. Vintage firearms are a passion of mine.
