#1313A  GEORGE MENTELER GERMAN PERCUSSION SS TARGET RIFLE, 40 cal., 35” oct. bbl., bbl. inlayed in gold “Stahl-Band Bon George Menteler in Zug”, lock also inlayed in gold with “George Menteler”, lock engraved with serpentine in forward part & rear of lock, also hammer is in the shape of a serpent with an open mouth that hits the cap, bbl. inlayed with numerous gold stars plus floral gold inlay at rear of bbl., all iron furniture is engraved, toe plate extends to rear of Schutzen trigger guard & from forend to the ramrod ferrel, original ramrod underneath bbl., stock is of Schutzen style with cheek rest & brass forend tip at muzzle, wood is checkered & has cheek rest for right hand shooter, wood is carved in a serpentine pattern, sling swivels, fine DST, fine German tang sight adjustable for windage & elevation, hooded bead front sight, silver plaque in right side of stock with presentation markings, dated 1864, exc. bore, one of the finest Schutzen rifles with very fine detail work, all complete, weighs 18 lbs..  $12,000
