Barrett M82A1 Unique 1 of 1 Electroless Nickel Finish .50 BMG Swarovski Barrett 10x42mm Habicht Scope w/Pelican Hard Case
Description: The M82A1 shown here is a unique, 1 of 1 rifle. According to the employees at Barrett, this rifle was custom ordered with an electroless nickel finish by a professional baseball player (name not given). Apparently, they defaulted on the rifle, and it was kept at the factory until one day when the consignor called in looking for a Barrett rifle. They hadn’t been able to find one previously due to the high demand at the time and so they called Barrett directly. Needless to say, Barrett offered them the special rifle, and it finally found a home. According to Barrett’s own records, this is the only rifle to have been ordered with this type of finish. This is a very early production rifle with a four-digit serial number (3739) and around 50 rounds have been fired through it since it left the factory. It is fitted with a superb scope, a Swarovski “Barrett” 10x42 mm Habicht scope. This scope model was developed specifically for the M82A1 in .50 BMG. The top notch (all the way at the top of the lens) on the reticule is set for a minimum of 500 yards. The rifle comes with a spare 10-round magazine, a wheeled Pelican hardcase, a cleaning kit (Barrett marked), and two manuals: one for the rifle and one for the Swarovski. The buyer of this Barrett pays for the rifle plus the full shipping fee. The Barrett M82 anti-material rifle must have been a shock to the gun buyer market when it was first introduced in the early 1980s. The rifle was initially marketed toward the long-range competition crowd. Prior to its arrival, the .50 BMG round was only utilized in the Browning M2 heavy machine gun and its variations, and as such, was not a cartridge that usually popped into people’s minds when thinking of a “standard rifle cartridge”. Since hitting the market, the M82 has become a fairly popular seller and has appeared in numerous films and video games. Its first appearance in film is perhaps its most famous as well, when it appeared as the “Cobra Assault Cannon” in the original “RoboCop” (1987). In that film, it was fitted a very large scope and fired fictional high explosive incendiary rounds. Surprisingly, the M82 was not actually adopted for military use until the Gulf War when the Marine Corps purchased some. Since then, the M82 and its younger variant, the M107, have seen increasing use by a multitude of military organizations throughout the world.
