Sharps Borchardt 45-90 High-Grade Restoration of Original Bridgeport Model 1878
Description: There could be a dozen of the fewer than 9,000 Sharps Borchardt / Bridgeport CT Rifles made between 1878 - 1881 coming up for sale from this collection. This listing is an Exquisite, Jaw-Dropping-Beautiful Restoration in 45-90 Caliber; Serial Number 206XX; 30-Inch; Tapered Full Octagon Barrel with an artistic Short Transition from Round at the Receiver Ring; Marked in Tiny Lettering on the Left Flat just ahead of the receiver ring “45 1/10” – which as far as we can tell, is an old designation for 45-90; Muzzle is lightly recess-crowned. This Barrel is (approximately) 1.25 – 1.30 Inches in Diameter at the round end that joins the receiver; it immediately assumes an octagon contour that Tapers to (approximately) 0.940 Inches across the flats at the Muzzle. A hang-tag on the case left by the owner says “Al Story Barrel” – referring to the master gunsmith in New Mexico who specializes in Sharps Borchardt restorations, barrels, and even makes new parts & receivers. The entire rifle, stock, sights and all details look much like examples on the Al Story / Borchardt Rifle Company <://rugercyl/> The Case Colored and Brightly-Restored Receiver is marked on its left side in three (spaced far apart) lines “SHARPS RIFLE CO BRIDGEPORT CONN.” / 206XX / PAT [illegible] 1876”. The Top of the (modern, Al Story-made) Barrel is Marked “Old Reliable” in Script and “SHARPS RIFLE CO BRIDGEPORT CONN.” The bore is mirror-bright and the rifling is sharp as an indication of high quality to match the rest of the rifle. The Highly Figured Wood Stock and Forend are Finely Checkered in a Border Pattern that Wraps Around the Bottom of the Schnabel Forend. Other High-End Embellishments include Raised Semi-Oval Flats where the Buttstock and Forend join the Receiver; Case-Colored and Fine Border-Checkered Niedner Buttplate; Checkered Front Trigger; Fully Adjustable for Windage and Elevation Brass and Steel Rear Sight; Windage Adjustable and Bubble-Level-Equipped Front Sight that accepts different aperture/post inserts (the one aperture shown in photos is included). A dovetail blank is present on the top barrel flat ahead of the receiver ring; and the one imperfection is a broken-off screw in a drilled and tapped hole just in front of the dovetail blank. Having been fully restored to better-than-new condition, we estimate this rifle as being in approximately 98 Percent (Restored) Condition with a Modern Barrel and Modern/Replica Target Sights.
