Sharps Borchardt 45-70 Bridgeport-Model 1878 Round Barrel Sporterized

Description:
Even yet another Sharps Borchardt Rifle for the Collection that (purely speculation) could be a Used, 45-70 Caliber Sporterized Militia version; SN 164XX; 28-Inch Round Barrel with an Excellent Bore and Minimal to no pitting visible under a flashlight. The Barrel is unmarked and carries a Military-Style Fold-Up Ladder Sight with Range Scale on the Wing; Front Sight is an Inset Balde on Narrow Base. The Rear sight is different from the one on our original militia listing – so this sight may not be original, nor the barrel, for that matter. The left side of the receiver is marked in three lines “BORCHARDT PATENT / SHARPS RIFLE CO BRIDGEPORT CONN. / U.S.A.” Serial Number is on the bottom of the Receiver between the Breech Block and Trigger. To our eye this entire rifle appears to have been refinished & reblued by a skilled individual who was careful not to wear away the serial number or receiver markings; no case color is visible to us. The Wood is Dark, Straight-Grain Wood with no checkering or embellishments; Forend carries a Schnabel Tip – and Sling Swivels are present on the Buttstock and Forend. The Buttplate is Niedner Style with Heavy-Duty/Coarse Checkering. All mechanical functions feel tight and secure – making this a shootable sporter that, by the looks of the contemporary sling, may have been used for that purpose until its acquisition by the collector.
