Harder
Description: This is a 30 inch octogen conversion of a Civil War surplus carbine probably by J. Harder of Penn. It has no markings other than the serial number but the fact that is semi-heavy (6 lb) with a cleaning rod in liue of a ram-rod leans it in his direction especially since it is on a surplus Civil War Spencer Carbine. Harder was a big user of these surplus Spencers. These heavy barrel conversions with cleaning rods are very rare. This rifle is in very decent shape and has not been abused. I do not shoot my antiques and have not measured the bore to determine the caliber but I assume it is the Spencer caliber range of .45 to .56. Very few collectors have found this combination of heavy barrel Spencer conversions with cleaning rods. They are quite rare and are beautiful. If interested, best that you text me since I do not answer my phone if I do not know the caller--I can furnish anyone with a ton of fotos and I prefer a "NO RETURN" policy.
