Beautiful American Percussion Rifle
Description: A beautiful half stock American made antique 40 caliber percussion rifle. The Hart family of gunsmiths from Frewsburg N.Y. made heavy half stock percussion rifles until 1859. There is a page below listing the maker (American Gun Makers). The barrel is marked “J. Hart”. The lock is marked “HB”. The gun is 50" over all length with a 34" barrel. The barrel metal retains it’s chocolate brown finish. The flats & edges of the barrel are in fine condition. There is a later replacement ram rod. The gun has a grapevine style brass trigger guard and crescent butt plate. The stock has a three piece patch box in excellent functional condition as well as several small brass star inlays (see photos) a brass nose cap and forend plate. There is a fixed rear sight and a blade front sight. With the exception of a crack near the rear plate lock screw, the overall wood is fine to excellent. The hammer, trigger/ lock, function as they should. The gun is very good to fine. Price is 1250.00. Honoring 3 day inspection. Buyer pays 40.00 shipping.
