Antique Vandenburgh/FINDLAY OHIO Percussion Rifle
Description: Antique Vandenburgh/FINDLAY OHIO Percussion Rifle Topped with Period Style Full Length Optic! Here we present an antique Percussion Rifle by O.B. Vandengburgh, manufactured in 1865 in Findlay, Ohio. Findlay was established during the War of 1812 as a fort by Colonel James Findlay, and it became a town in 1821. By the 1840s, there were about 100 families there, and by the 1850s, the small town of Findlay was a station for the Abolitionist Underground Railroad. O.B. Vandenburgh is recorded as being born in Findlay in 1824 and listed as a gunsmith by the age of 29 in 1853. He opened his own shop in 1857. Accompanying this rifle will be a copy of the advertisement from The Findlay Jeffersonian newspaper from July 30, 1858 as seen in the photo section of this listing. The top of this rifle’s barrel is marked “O.B. VANDENBURGH/FINDLAY.O./1865/45”. This rifle was made in the final year of the American Civil War. The rifle is topped with a period-style brass tube optic that is marked “4X15/Japan” and was made circa the mid-to-late 20th Century. It fits rather nicely with this rifle and the brass has begun to match the tone of the brass on the rifle hardware. The optic has very fine, standard crosshairs and glass. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers, iron sights, and a heavy octagonal barrel with a turned down portion at the muzzle for a loading tool. The rifle is distinct in its aesthetic, having a maple butt stock with the typical crescent butt plate with only a short brass sheet for the forearm. Box lock frame, trigger guard, and butt plate are also of brass. The overall condition is good. The brass has a mellow patina. The markings are clear. The numbers match. The stock is in good shape. The bore is in good shape with sharp rifling. The action is mobile, but weak. This rifle is quite the unique piece and would be a very neat rifle to shoot with a little action work. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 32 inches. Caliber: .38 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1875 #6169 SOLD Antique: Yes |
