1842 Springfield Musketoon
Description:
This is a Model 1842 Springfield musket that has been cut down and its front, double strap band moved back to accommodate its 26” barrel. The bayonet lug has also been relocated to accommodate the bayonet. Very nice lock is dated 1848 and has a clear eagle and “Springfield”. Lock mechanics are crisp. This is a good example of a Confederate repaired arm. Thousands of battlefield pickups were sent back to the local arsenals to be repaired or scrapped for parts. Guns with barrels that were damaged on the ends were cut back to carbine or musketoon length. The bayonet lugs were relocated and the “new” guns were reissued. This example was probably a product of the Macon, Georgia arsenal as they were known to have shortened and altered many Model 1842’s. This is the most inexpensive Confederate arm you can purchase.
PAYMENT OPTIONS: Payment is expected within 10 days of ending. I only accept postal money orders, cashier’s checks and personal checks. Checks will be held 10 business days for checks to clear.
