"Percussion Philadelphia Target Rifle by Charles Foehl (AL5208)
Description: "Percussion Philadelphia target rifle by Charles Foehl. With A.J. Plate Barrel, San Francisco retailer barrel marking. The overall length is 51½". The 32⅝" octagon .38 caliber barrel has an excellent bore with strong rifling. The barrel is a smooth blue/brown. The top flat is marked “CHAs Foehl/Phila." Just forward is the stamping “made for/ A.J. Plate/ San Francisco Co." The barrel rear sight dovetail is filled, there is a windage-adjustment tang sight. The lock, which has a gray patina, is stamped “CHAs Foehl/Phila". The German silver nose cap, trigger guard, and butt plate are fine. The trigger guard tang is numbered “12". The butt plate has a well-made Schuetzen type extension attached to the toe. The stock is very good with checkered wrist and no cracks or chips. The action works correctly. Charles Foehl (1863-1912) was issued multiple firearms patents, primarily for revolvers. He is known for percussion rifles and pistols. Joseph Plate (1818-1878) operated in San Francisco from 1850-1878. He was primarily a retailer. Price: $3,750.00 Antique: Yes Contact Seller |
